Photography as a means of healing
Bye Bye Tumour
Northumberland
Monty was born with a vascular tumor. The NHS advised waiting for surgery until Monty was older, however this came with an instruction of caution to bumps and tumbles. His toddlerhood would be limited; his family sought alternative opinions. A leading surgeon in italy offered a safe, single surgery, sparing Monty future procedures and complications and allowing him to climb trees and jump in those Northumberland puddles without the added stress of a fall. For his mom, Aly, there was a quiet grief — there was so much running around and worrying in the early days she never got to have her happy family photography shoot. When the tumor was finally removed, she marked the closing of an extremely rough chapter with a Short Story Portrait Session. They had a beautiful home near Alnwick, where they really wanted to capture their boy's childhood. Running about in wellies and just being kids
Breastfeeding after a breast-reduction
Heaton, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
When Jess welcomed her third son — a beautiful surprise — after undergoing breast reduction surgery. She cherished the joy of breastfeeding her second child and was determined to share that bond with her youngest. Despite the hurdles posed by her surgery, including nipple reconstruction, and all the trial and error required in the latch, Jess approached the journey with unwavering perseverance. She successfully breastfed her son and chose to honor this deeply meaningful milestone with a Mini Story Portrait Session to capture those breastfeeding moments in their Heaton home.
No Expectation
Blyth, Northumberland
Hayley and her two boys, both of whom are autistic. Hayley had empty frames in her house and it was always so tough to capture the photos she wanted of her boys. Being out and about with both boys she was almost always concentrating on keeping them safe versus taking photos of them. Hayley suggested their favourite place: Blyth beach. The beach is a freeing place. Sam ran back and forth; Alex skipped his stones and for a moment frozen in time there was no expectation on them to fit any sort of mould. Just be
AN EXPAT'S CHOICE
Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne
Bruna and Lucas moved from Brazil to the UK with dreams of building their life together, but when they found out they were expecting their first child, the distance from home felt heavier than ever. With family and lifelong friends oceans away, they knew this chapter would be one they’d have to share in a different way. So they booked a maternity session — not just to mark the joy of new beginnings, but to offer a piece of this moment back to their loved ones. For them, it was more than photos — it was a way to feel seen, held, and connected across continents. To say, look, here we are — your grandchild is already so loved.
It'll always be Hyem
Howick, Northumberland
Katie and Dan flew from Philadelphia with their two boys, back to the Northumberland coast for the wedding of Dan's childhood friend. To celebrate their northern roots, they contacted me for a family photo session and Rumbling Kern along the Northumberland coastline. With its rugged rock faces, rolling dunes, and even the odd cow wandering through, it was the perfect spot for this family beach photoshoot
It was a magical end of summer day, a perfect day between the hubub of meeting family and friends, to ground themselves in the familiar landscape, let the boys run free on the shoreline, and hold onto a moment of home. It'll always be Hyem.
